I made it through surgery yesterday and made it to a room about 7:00pm. I felt pretty good for a few hours, even eating and going to the bathroom on my own three times. I have drains in each breast, and they were putting out a normal amount of blood.

Round about midnight, the right drain started filling up very fast and the left drain stopped draining completely. I was standing in the bathroom and noticed the drain bulb felt heavy. I thought “this drain bulb looks pretty full.” Jamie stepped in the bathroom, and I felt dizzy all of a sudden. I told him I felt dizzy, very dizzy. Last thing I remember before passing out. When I came to I was sitting on the toilet with Jamie holding me up and calling for help. I had no idea how I got there, and I felt weaker than I’ve ever felt in my life. I couldn’t even hold up my head.

After that, the drain bulb wouldn’t quit filling. Every hour and once even while they were emptying it. They worked all night to slow the bleeding, my doctor’s office had a PA there at 6:00am, a partner doctor there at 7:00am, and my doctor was there at 8:00.

I had to go back into surgery this morning. Dr. Ghazi found a small bleed in the right breast near where I had my biopsy in October. I seem to be all patched up but have to spend another night in the hospital. No eating til this evening, and they won't let me go to the bathroom by myself. But praise the Lord, Jamie says I look so much better and my color is back. And had he not caught me when I passed out…well, it would have been an even longer night with some type of head injury to show for it.

Just learned I have to go back to surgery…

On my way…

Anesthesiologist…Dr. Mecker.

No food even after surgery til they watched me all day. Then I got liquid supper, but it was the best plain chicken broth ever!

Tonight. Tired but well. Feeling much much better.

Oh…please let your friends fuss over you. Those meals that so many will be fixing are a blessing. They all help with one less thing to do or prepare. Jamie might be in new territory with keeping house, doing laundry, vacuuming, washing floors, scrubbing bathrooms and all the things you did on a regular basis. I gained a whole new appreciation for all the work inside the house that needed to be done. Sit on those hands if you must for the next 8 weeks or so!

Home is the best place to heal and rest. ❤️‍🩹 Listen to “Dr. Jamie” moving forward. Having gone through this will bring you both to a new level in your relationship and appreciation of one another. The worst is over. Each day you will feel better and stronger than the day before. Love you both.
