Up until now, Little Monster has nested in plastic bins. The first one was small and filled with fleece, and he used it til his eyes opened. Once they did, he moved into a larger bin, still filled with fleece, to give him more room. He liked to create tunnels and small nesting spots in there.
This afternoon while trying to take a nap, I heard Kevin bumping around in his bin and knew he was hopping around and “playing” as best he could. I got him up and put him in the bed with us. While I dozed, he did laps up and down my back without stopping for about 15 or 20 minutes.
I knew it was time.
Today, Kevin graduated to one level of his big boy cage, and I’ve never seen a happier squirrel! After a short nap, he hopped and jumped and bounced and climbed and wrestled and investigated to his heart’s content. Once he’s more sure of himself climbing, we will hang a hammock at the top of the cage because he needs to learn to sleep up off the ground. For now though, he’s very happy with his familiar scented fleece blanket pieces.
He’s on his way!
Oh my gosh. He's so adorable.
