Kevin showed up today! It was really and truly him! I was about to leave in my car and realized I'd forgotten something. I stepped out, and a squirrel ran from under the carport to the big oak tree. I did what I always do when I see a squirrel in the front yard....I called out, "Hey Kevin! Hey Little Feller!" as I walked toward the tree. Usually whatever squirrel I'm calling to hightails it up the tree, but today something different happened.
The squirrel stopped on the tree about five feet up. It looked and listened to me as I continued walking toward it. I got within arm's distance of him and then stopped and continued talking to him. And he stayed right there, continuing to listen to me. After a minute or two, he ran around the tree but not up. I circled but didn't see him, so I said, "I'm gonna go get you a pecan" and walked to the front door. When I got there, I looked back and saw the squirrel had jumped onto the swing. I grabbed a pecan and went back out. He came across the swing and took the pecan from my hand. When he jumped away, he took his old route up the oak tree and across a limb (his limb) to jump into the red tip bushes on the other side of the driveway.
Happy, happy, happy, happy, can I tell you I was HAPPY! It's been close to a year since he last came to see me, and oh how I've missed him.
Here's a photo of him from last summer not too long after he was released. He's grown, but he's still beautiful, and he looks sooooo good. And I'm sooooo happy! My Little Feller...
You've made a friend for life with your good deeds
